Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will be on a two-day tour of Gujarat from Saturday as part of his campaign for the assembly elections due in December this year.
During the AAP chief’s previous tours, his party had claimed to have guaranteed up to 300 units of free electricity as well as monthly unemployment allowance for the youth of the state.
Now it remains to be seen what Kejriwal will announce as the third promise. But it seems Hami Bhava may have something to do with Gujarat’s tribal population, which is considered an important vote bank.
“On Sunday, the AAP chief will address a public meeting in Bodeli town in tribal-dominated Chhotaudepur district. He will announce another guarantee to the people of the state, which the party will implement after coming to power,” informed a press release issued by the party, but did not elaborate on what the guarantee would be.
‘A ray of hope for a certain segment’
Senior AAP leader Isudan Gadhvi told India Today that Kejriwal will attend a large public gathering at Bodeli. He said in a public meeting that he will announce the third guarantee for the people of Gujarat. “This third guarantee will be very important for a particular segment. It will be a ray of hope for them. We expect a large crowd at the public meeting at Bodeli,” he said.
Kejriwal’s visit to the tribal belt will be his second. Tribal vote bank is important for Gujarat assembly elections. It was once a stronghold of the Congress, but now the BJP has gained ground here.
On Saturday afternoon, Kejriwal will also hold a town hall meeting with traders and shopkeepers in Jamnagar town to discuss their issues, Gujarat AAP said in a statement.
During his previous visits, Kejriwal had announced free electricity up to 300 units as well as monthly unemployment allowance to the youth of the state.
The AAP chief had earlier said that if his party’s government comes to Gujarat, every unemployed person will be given a job and those who are not getting jobs will get Rs 3,000 per month.
Earlier, during his visit to Surat, the Delhi Chief Minister promised 300 units of free electricity to all domestic consumers and 24×7 electricity to towns and villages in Gujarat if his party is elected. He has also promised to pay all outstanding electricity bills by December 31, 2021.
