New Delhi: At least seven people were killed, 13 others seriously injured and around 45 people went missing in a massive landslide near a railway construction camp in Manipur’s Noni district on Thursday.
Reportedly, the incident took place on Wednesday midnight near the Imphal railway line located near Makhuam area near Tupul Yard construction camp in Jiribam. According to officials, the death toll could rise to 27 as many people are still missing. Search and rescue operation is still on.
So far 19 people have been rescued and they are being treated at Noni Army Medical Unit.
PM Narendra Modi reviewed the situation in Manipur and also spoke to CM Biren Singh. Amidst the tragic incident, PM Modi in a tweet assured all possible help from the Centre.
The incessant rain caused massive landslides that damaged the Tupul station building of the Jiribam-Imphal new line project.
The construction of the track also got stuck due to landslide and the camps of the construction workers informed NF Railway CPRO.
