Noida: Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi has been booked by the Noida police on Friday for assaulting a woman after an altercation with a woman in a housing association.

An argument broke out during the day at the Grand Omax Society in Sector-93B here when a woman objected to Srikanth Tyagi planting some trees, claiming that he had violated the rules even though he was within his rights to do so.

“Srikant Tyagi has been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman, expressing anger or knowing that it is likely to violate her modesty),” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women’s Security) Ankita Sharma said PTI.

“Charges may be added after proper investigation of the case,” said an IPS officer. Tyagi is known on social media as the national executive member of BJP’s Kisan Morcha and the national co-convener of the ruling party’s Yuva Kisan Samiti.

According to officials, a local police team was sent to the housing society in the evening, but Tyagi did not open the door of the house.
“He was threatening to release his pet dogs on the police officers, thereby evading his arrest. A police team was waiting outside his house,” said another officer PTI.
