Pakistani-British boxer Amir Khan on Friday announced his retirement from professional boxing at the age of 35.

He announced the decision on Twitter, saying it was time to hang up the gloves.

The former world champion suffered a stoppage loss to Kel Brook in February.

The Bolton fighter began his professional career in 2005 after winning an Olympic silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games.

He integrated world titles in super-lightweight during a 40-fight career that included 34 wins and six losses.

Khan became world champion in July 2009, defeating Andrey Kotelnik on points to clinch the WBA super-lightweight title, and then he stopped Zab Judah two years later to add an IBF belt.
