AIIMS-Delhi director Randeep Guleria is likely to get an extension of three months, official sources said on Wednesday. Tenure extension is likely on June 20 with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister seeking a comprehensive panel of names for the post of Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here.
Dr Guleria was appointed as the Director of AIIMS, New Delhi on March 28, 2017 for a period of five years. His term, which was to end on March 24, was extended by three months.
In March this year, the names of three doctors, selected by a search-cum-selection committee and later approved by the institute body, the apex decision-making body of AIIMS, were sent to the ACC for final approval. “…the Competent Authority in the ACC has directed to return the proposal forthwith with a request to send a comprehensive panel of names for the consideration of the ACC, in an office memorandum sent by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Health to the Union Ministry of Health. The three AIIMS doctors whose names were recommended earlier were Nikhil Tandon, head of the department of endocrinology; Rajesh Malhotra, Head of AIIMS Trauma Center and Head of Department of Orthopedics; and Pramod Garg, Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology.
