Kolkata (West Bengal): On Friday, Arpita Mukherjee’s lawyer, claiming that her life was in danger, requested the court to grant her Division 1 prisoner category. ED counsel Feroze Edulzi agreed with the counsel’s argument that Arpita’s life was in danger and added that she should not be kept with more than four inmates in general.

Earlier today, former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee were produced in the city sessions court. “Nobody has come out and said that he has asked for a bribe, neither in the CBI case nor in the ED. Can any witness show that they asked for bribe? Parth Chatterjee has no connection with this crime and the charges leveled by the CBI are not correct,” argued Parth’s lawyer.

“When the ED raided his house on July 22 in the case, nothing was found. If you try to ask a man who is not involved in the crime, he will be clearly non-cooperative,” he added.

Meanwhile, Arpita Mukherjee’s lawyer said that her life is in danger. ED counsel said, “Her food and water should be tested first and then given. But Parth Chatterjee’s lawyer applied for bail on the grounds that there would be no loss. “Since he is not a political person, he can now resign as an MLA if needed,” the lawyer said.

The ED had also sought Arpita’s judicial custody. A court has remanded Arpita and former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee to judicial custody till August 18 in connection with the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam. Arpita Mukherjee and Parth Chatterjee along with both sides completed hearing.

Since Parth Chatterjee’s arrest, the ED has unearthed several of his undeclared assets, including three flats in West Bengal’s Diamond City. ED investigation teams have seized around Rs 50 crore in cash including jewelery from Mukherjee’s two flats in south-west Kolkata and Belghoria.

After Partha Chatterjee’s arrest, Rs 21 crore in cash and over Rs 1 crore worth of jewelery were seized from former education minister Arpita Mukherjee’s Kolkata residence. The Enforcement Directorate on July 23 seized over Rs 21 crore in cash from the house of an associate of West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee.

ED raids Arpita Mukherjee’s house in connection with alleged teacher recruitment scam. Earlier, Rs 20 crore was seized from her residence in South Kolkata. ED officials also raided the house of businessman Manoj Jain in Balliganj. Jain is said to be an associate of Minister of State Partha Chatterjee.
