Assam Chief Minister Biswa Sarma made a statement against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia MPNRC News

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday addressed the court in a criminal defamation case filed against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Sarma presented his statement in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup Gramin, and several other witnesses in the case are likely to record their statements by the end of this month.

In June 2022 Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia made some serious allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference. In that press conference Mr. Angered by the allegations leveled by Sisodia, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to file a criminal defamation case against him stating that certain allegations were made without any basis or facts. A case was registered some time ago and the date for recording his preliminary statement was fixed today. Their statements have been recorded by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamarp Rural,” said Advocate General of Assam Debojit Lone Saikia.

On June 4, Sisodia had accused Sarma of scamming him in a press conference. He said that in 2020, during the Covid pandemic, when the current Chief Minister of Assam was the Health Minister, he awarded a contract for supply of PPE kits to JCB Industries, which is co-owned by Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. He also alleged that JCB Industries was ordered to supply PPE kits at Rs 900, while others were being supplied at Rs 600.

When Sarma questioned the allegations, there was no explanation from Sisodia.
The Chief Minister of Assam then decided to file a criminal defamation case under Sections 499, 500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code.

Riniki Bhuyan Sarma filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Sisodia in Civil Judge no. 1 of Kamrup Metropolitan District on June 21 on the same charge.

Sarma’s lawyer has said that JCB Industries did not participate in any bid to supply PPE kits to NHM, Assam, nor did they raise any bill. As a part of corporate social responsibility initiatives they had supplied around 1,500 PPE kits to NHM, Assam.
