Bayer Leverkusen have given teenage Germany star Florian Wirtz a contract extension until 2027, it was announced on Thursday, while the attacking midfielder was sidelined with a serious knee injury.
Wirtz, who turned only 19 last month, has been out of action since March when he tore a ligament of his cruciate knee during a Bundesliga game.

Nevertheless, Leverkusen have added an extra year to his contract.
“Florian is a special player. He is very important to our club, and in the same way we provide him with great opportunities for a wonderful career,” said sporting director Simon Rolfs.
Wirtz, who made his Germany debut last September, is undergoing intensive rehabilitation hoping to play in the World Cup, which begins in November.
