Even as India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage crosses 205 crore doses, the monthly cases and deaths graph shows an upward trend, as July has recorded the highest number of deaths and cases in at least the last two months.
Further, the total number of cases reported in July is more than the number of cases reported between March and June combined, official data analyzed by CNN-News18 shows.
India recorded 1,241 Covid deaths and 5.67 lakh cases in July, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The deaths recorded in July were close to those recorded in May and June combined.
In May, India recorded 827 Covid-related deaths which fell to 486 in June.
The year began with an outbreak of the omicron variant of the coronavirus in India. In the first two months – January and February – deaths were recorded – more than 10,000.
Monthly deaths began to decline in March, when about 7,300 deaths were reported. It fell further to 2,674 in April.
Similarly, monthly cases were over 64 lakh in January. It came to 16.21 lakh in February and fell below one lakh in March.
Fewer than one lakh cases were reported in the country in April and May. However, in June, the monthly cases crossed nearly three lakh.

India reported 20,551 coronavirus cases and 70 deaths on Friday. So far 5.26 lakh deaths and 4.41 crore patients have been reported in the country.
There are 1.35 lakh active cases.
According to the ministry, India’s cumulative covid vaccination coverage has crossed 205.59 crore under the nationwide immunization campaign, including 10 crore precautionary doses.
