Technical glitches forced the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the examination at 50 centers across the country on the second day of the Common University Entrance Test-Under Graduate (CUET-UG) 2022 Phase II on Friday. Some students claimed to have received a communication from the NTA late at night, telling them that their exams scheduled for Saturday have been postponed due to administrative and logistical reasons.

On Thursday, the first shift exam was canceled at some centers in 17 states, while the second shift exam was canceled at all 489 centres. Many students complained that they waited for two hours only to find that the day’s exam was cancelled. Candidates also seemed panicked as the agency did not issue admit cards on Sunday.

On the next day, the examination conducted at 20 centers in the first shift and 30 centers across the country in the second shift was postponed. “Technical issues were reported at some centres, after which reports were sought from on-ground observers and city coordinators. A decision was taken to postpone the exam based on their recommendations,” said a senior NTA official.

However, the agency has not announced any new dates for the re-examination. “I came from Chhatarpur to the examination center in Noida Sector 64 (about 34 km),” said Ganika, who aspires to do BA (Hons) Sociology at Delhi University. We were made to sit at the terminal. At 12 noon we were told that the exam would not be held today due to technical difficulties. Yesterday, my sister came from Narela to this center (about 84 km) but had to return due to the same problem.” “This is the height of mismanagement,” she added.

Another CUET candidate Hemanshe Udar also shared a similar complaint. “I left my home in Dwarka Sector 51 (44 km) at 5.30 am to reach the center on time. But we were told after almost three hours that the paper will not be held today and we have to come back on August 12. It is extremely difficult to travel so far,” she said. Her mother said it was also difficult for the parents as many of them took time off from work in their wards.

The second phase of CUET-UG got off to a rough start on Thursday as technical and administrative issues forced the NTA to cancel the second shift examination at all 489 centers and postpone the first shift at some locations in 17 states. These exams will be held on August 12.

The NTA has postponed CUET-UG in Kerala – scheduled for August 4, 5 and 6 – due to heavy rains and said fresh dates will be announced later. Although the agency said on Thursday that the same admit card would be valid for those who failed the exam, some students claimed on Friday that they were asked to tear it.

Roshni, who traveled from the North Campus area, said, “I have to come to the same center tomorrow for my Division 2 exam. It has been promised that the exam will be conducted. But considering the situation of yesterday and today, it is unlikely. Candidates whose exam is on August 7 tagged NTA over the admit card issues on social media throughout the day. Apart from that, there are candidates who shared their admit cards on social media and claimed that they have been allotted cities of their choice.
