Amritsar Punjab, August 6 (ANI): Mirabai Chanu and Achinta Shewli were showered with love as people welcomed them at the Amritsar airport in Punjab after winning a gold medal each for the country at the CWG 2022. Indian weightlifters Chanu and Sheuli returned home with two gold medals. India.

Both the weightlifters had an amazing campaign in Birmingham as they topped the podium in their respective categories and made the entire country proud.

“It feels great to be back in India and we are happy that we have won the award for the country,” said Achint, as he was greeted with bouquets and sweets by the people of India.

Weightlifters Lovepreet Singh and Gurdeep Singh also returned home with them. Both received a grand welcome from the public on their return from the Commonwealth Games.

Lovepreet and Gurdeep both won bronze medals for the country. Lovepreet, who won bronze in the 109 kg category, said, “It feels great to be here and we are very happy to be back in the country.

Both were received with great love and affection by the people of Punjab. “We are getting a lot of affection from the people here. We are looking forward to preparing for the Asian Games, Olympics,” Gurdeep said as he prepares to take on more challenges in the future and make the country proud again.

Achinta Shewli lifted 313 kg in the men’s 73 kg final to win the gold medal. During the event, he set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 143 kg in his final attempt in the snatch round.

Achinta Shewli lifted a total of 313 kg (143 kg + 170 kg) after lifting 170 kg in her third clean and jerk attempt. Meanwhile, Chanu stormed into the women’s 49kg final. In the snatch category, she made a good start in her first attempt and lifted 84 kg.

Chanu successfully lifted the required 88 kg weight in seconds. She gave her personal best while representing India. In the final attempt of the snatch, the Tokyo Olympic silver medalist failed to lift 90 kg in a show of tremendous strength. In the clean and jerk lift category, Chanu showed tremendous strength by lifting 109 kg in her first attempt. In her second attempt, she lifted 113 kg.

In her final attempt in the event, she failed to lift 115 kg but did not fail to win India’s first gold medal in this multi-sport event in 2022. Lovepreet finished with a lift of 355 kg in the men’s 109 kg category. These included 163 kg in his final snatch attempt and 192 kg in the clean and jerk. This helped him to win the bronze medal.

Gurdeep Singh lifted 390 kg in the men’s 109 plus kg final to win a bronze medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.
