Birmingham: India won their second medal in the lawn balls event at the Commonwealth Games after the men’s fours team settled for silver after losing to Northern Ireland in the final here on Saturday. The final score was 18-5 in favor of Northern Ireland.
The Indian team consisted of Sunil Bahadur (lead), Navneet Singh (second), Chandankumar Singh (third) and Dinesh Kumar (omitted).
Northern Ireland’s last gold medal in lawn bowls came back at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
The Indian team defeated hosts England by a margin of 13-12 in the semi-final to ensure India at least a silver medal.
The women’s quartet of Lovely Chaubey (first), Pinky (second), Nayanmoni Saikia (third) and Roopa Rani Tirkey (skip) helped India win a historic gold medal by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the women’s fours final on Tuesday.
