Birmingham: Day nine of India’s Commonwealth Games 2022 began on a positive note as the women’s doubles pair of Manika Batra and Diya Prayag and Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennyson advanced to the quarterfinals in table tennis with impressive wins in their respective rounds on Saturday. 16 matches.
Manika-Dia defeated Omehani Hosseinli and Nandashweri Jalim of Mauritius 3-0. The Indian pair defeated their opponents 11-5, 11-5, 11-3. Manika and Diya got off to a good start as they won the first game convincingly.
They never looked back from there and followed with two more wins to seal the match and book their ticket to the quarter-finals. Another Indian women’s doubles pair of Srija Akula and Reeth Tennyson cruised to a 3-0 win over Anna Chloe Thomas Wu Zhang and Lara Vitto of Wales. Akula-Tennyson won the one-sided match 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
The Welsh pair were given little chance to make up the deficit and lost the match in three games. There is a lot of exciting table tennis action for fans today. Table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal will play in the quarter-finals from 2:40 pm.
At 3:25 pm, Sathiya Gnanasekaran and Sunil Shetty will play in their respective quarterfinals in men’s singles table tennis. Sreeja Akula will play in the women’s singles semi-finals in table tennis from 4:10 pm.
Sathiya Gnanasekaran and Achanta Sharath Kamal will play the men’s doubles semi-final in table tennis from 4:55 pm onwards. From 6:00 pm onwards, the table tennis mixed doubles team of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula will play in the semifinals.
The Commonwealth Games 2022 started in Birmingham from July 28 and will continue till August 8.
