New Delhi: Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Ravi Dahiya won gold medals in wrestling at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday. With this India’s gold medal tally has reached 11, 6 in wrestling alone. The total number has reached 34.

Vinesh Phogat defeats Sri Lanka’s Chamoda Keshani Maduravalej Don in women’s freestyle 53kg Nordic. Phogat fell in two minutes and 24 seconds to win the gold medal 4-0.

2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ravi Dahiya takes on Nigeria’s Ebikewenimo Welson in the men’s 57kg final. Dahiya won the match on technical superiority by a margin of 10-0 in a match that lasted two minutes and 16 seconds.

Pooja Gehlot won the bronze medal in women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling by defeating Christel Lechidgio Lemofak of Scotland 12-2. Gehlot won the bronze medal based on technical superiority.

The Indian grappler took a 10-2 lead in the first period and put the pressure on her opponent in the match which lasted three minutes and forty-nine seconds. An in-form Gehlot held his own.

However, Gehlot apologized to the country for not being able to win the gold. “I apologize to my countrymen. I wanted the national anthem to be played here. But I will learn from my mistakes and work on them,” the news agency said ANI She was quoted as saying.
