New Delhi: A special CBI court in Jharkhand on Saturday sentenced an autorickshaw driver and another person to life imprisonment for the murder of Dhanbad judge Uttam Anand. On July 28, a year after Anand was knocked down while jogging in the morning, the court convicted him in the murder case.

CBI court judge Rajinikanth Pathak convicted driver Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence of crime, giving false information) for the murder of Additional Sessions Judge Anand. protect the criminal) and 34 (general purpose).

The hearing of this murder case started in February. During the hearing, the court recorded the statements of 58 witnesses. CCTV camera footage shows that the judge was jogging on one side of a fairly wide road at Randhir Verma Chowk in Dhanbad when the three-wheeler swerved towards him, hit him from behind and fled the scene.

An SIT was initially set up to probe the case, but the Jharkhand government later handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A fine of Rs 30 thousand has also been imposed on both the convicts.
