Kakaran was initially seeded second to Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu in the quarter-finals of her tournament as she lost 0–11 to her opponent.
Oborududu scored 5 technical points in the first period and added 6 more in the second period as she claimed victory by technical superiority, the Indian not scoring a single point.
But she ensured India’s medal tally in Birmingham increased as she capitalized on her repechage opportunity against Cameroon’s Blandine Nyeh Ngiri.
In the bronze medal qualifying match against Ngiri, Kakran claimed four technical points which she held unbroken and won by knockout in a match that lasted just over a minute.
With her performance in Birmingham on Friday, she added to her CWG bronze medal haul at Gold Coast 2018.
