Skipper Rohit Sharma said on Wednesday that India will definitely have their eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup against England, but they do not want to take it as a preparation and try to win every match and keep all the boxes.
The 35-year-old is now fit to lead India in the T20I series against England starting on Thursday, after losing the fifth Test against England in Birmingham due to Covid-19. After training for three days in a row in Birmingham, Sharma contacted the rest of the group on Tuesday afternoon.
“Of course, we are definitely looking forward to the World Cup. I will not say that this is preparation. Every match is important for us. We want to come here and tick every box we have and make sure we get the job done, it’s that easy, ”Rohit told a press conference on the eve of the first T20I.

The young players in the team deserve their chances after doing well in the IPL or for their state teams, Rohit said and England will be a very challenging team for them.
“Of course, there are many young players who are getting the opportunity to represent the country through the performance of their state team, IPL teams. They deserve their opportunity, ”he said.
“England are going to be a very challenging team for us, I’m sure these guys have been here for some time. They went to Ireland; They played two practice games here. Now we are looking forward to this T20 series and then the ODI series, ”he added.

Asked if Umran Malik is in his plans for the T20 World Cup, the captain said they are definitely keeping an eye on him and would like to see what the young fast bowler has to offer.
“He [Umran Malik] There is a lot in our plans. He is trying to make the team understand what he wants from them. Yes, there will come a time when we want some people to try and Umran is definitely one of those kids. We are watching the World Cup, we want to see what it has to offer us, ”said Rohit.
“It’s definitely an exciting prospect, no doubt about it. He can bowl fast, as we have all seen during the IPL. It’s just about giving him a role, “he added.
