India’s left-arm opener Shikhar Dhawan has started his own sports education and training organization called Da One Sports. The organization will work to establish training for children at the grassroots level.
Dhawan’s sports initiative aims to create learning opportunities for athletes and sports coaches for a better future.
The academy has launched various programs like ‘Grassroot Innovation Programme’ and ‘Sports Training Programme’ and will focus on developing sports culture at the grass root level and eventually tie up with schools and academies and ensure use of technology to keep track. The academy will conduct training in eight sports at the grassroots and elite levels. They are developing four centers of excellence besides training 500 trainers. Under its ‘Sports and Wellness Programme’, the organization aims to impact 10 lakh athletes in the next five years.
“I think, cricket has given me a lot and I want to put in my efforts and play my part to keep it alive. I want to impart my knowledge and experience to the younger generation through this organization. I believe that if we do our best, then hum sab apne sapnon ko sharika mein sharikat makte hain (we can turn our dreams into reality),” said Dhawan.
On the cricketing front, Dhawan, who recently led India to a 3-0 ODI series clean sweep in the West Indies, has been retained as India’s captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club from August 18 to 22.
