Cam Barkley (1st), Adam McKeon (2nd), Ian McClure (3rd) and Martin McHugh (left) made up a Northern Ireland team that initially looked favorites to win the top prize.
India, on the other hand, struggled and failed to open their account in the first four ends, despite their opponents taking a 7-0 lead.
India eventually got their first point after five overs, but it mattered little to an aggressive Northern Ireland quartet, as they extended their dominance and extended their lead to seven points after 10 overs. At that stage of the final the scoreline was 12-5.
Northern Ireland scored another six points in the next four ends to run out easy winners and claim the gold medal.
However, the silver medal is expected to boost the sport’s popularity in India, as the women’s team’s gold medal made fans follow the sport.
Lovely Chaubey, Rupa Rani Tirki, Pinky and Nayanmoni Saikia defeated South Africa (17-10) on Day 5 of the tournament to win the country’s first ever medal in the Lawn Bowl.
