India reports 2,858 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 4,31,19,112 with 2,858 fresh infections on Saturday, while the number of active cases declined to 18,096, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll rose to 5,24,201 with 11 more deaths, data updated at 8 am. Active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections. The ministry said that the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.74 per cent. A decrease of 508 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a 24-hour period.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.59 per cent and weekly positivity rate at 0.66 per cent, the ministry said. The number of people recovering from the viral disease increased to 4,25,76,815. It said the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.22 per cent.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered so far in the country under the nationwide immunization drive has crossed 191.15 crores. India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed 20 lakhs on August 7, 2020, 30 lakhs on 23rd August, 40 lakhs on 5th September and 50 lakhs on 16th September.

It crossed 60 lakhs on 28th September, 70 lakhs on 11th October, 80 lakhs on 29th October, 90 lakhs on 20th November and one crore on 19th December. India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crores on May 4, 2021, and 3 crores on June 23rd.
