Jacobabad is currently one of the hottest places in the world
Jacobabad warmed to 51 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which is currently one of the hottest places on Earth. Karachi also saw its hottest day in May in four years.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), above normal and record-setting temperatures were witnessed in the ongoing heatwave across the country.
The highest temperature of the country was recorded at 51 degree Celsius in Jacobabad on Saturday. Shaheed Benazirabad and Nawabshah recorded a maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius and Moenjo Daro recorded a maximum temperature of 50 degrees Celsius.
Sibi, Larkana and Dadu remained relatively cooler at 49 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department said that these temperatures were much above the average temperature in these areas during May.

In Jacobabad, the average highest temperature in May is 43.8 °C while in Shaheed Benazirabad the average temperature is 44.6 °C and Moenjo Daro is 44 °C. The average temperature in Larkana is 43.9 °C for Moenjo Daro and the average temperature in Dadu is 44 °C.
However, international meteorological experts said this was the highest temperature ever recorded on the planet, with Australia recording an average temperature of 50.7 °C.
Karachi also recorded one of its hottest days in May for nearly a decade. The Meteorological Department said that the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 42.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday. This is the highest temperature recorded in the city in May since 2018, when the temperature reached 46 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department said that westerly winds of about 22 knots and the weather remains extremely hot and dry. In the evening, the Meteorological Department said, the wind will turn in the south-west direction and will move at 12-15 knots.
Meteorological officials said that from Sunday, May 15, the temperature of the city will be around 36-38 degree Celsius.
