It’s been 10 years since Gangs of Wasseypur released in cinemas across India, and our perception of cinema has changed, and what Indian audiences love to watch on the big screen. The Anurag Kashyap film also helped the audience, and the filmmakers realized the immense potential that actors like Jaideep Ahlawat, Pankaj Tripathi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui had. Now, as the film completes a decade, Jaideep Ahlawat opens up about what the film means to him, and talks about the experience of shooting it in an exclusive interview with us.
Talking about the film achieving a cult status, Jaideep said, “I always say that Gangs of Wasseypur was my first knock at the door of Hindi cinema, where a lot of people felt for the first time that Ginkgo There is an actor around you can try (where many people for the first time thought that there is an actor around who can be cast). That film was very special from Hama, and aaj bhi special hai mere life mein. Length The role was not very big according to me, but I think the most beautiful part of good writing or good direction is that it does not depend much on the length. Its impact is what it should have gone. What has been special, even now it is a special film for me. Length wise, my role was not that big but the beauty of good writing and good direction is that the length of the role doesn’t matter. The effect it should have made) I, the Almighty, and the entire Wasseypur team – writers, directors, co-actors and everyone, reached out to the people and definitely part of it. Being there was a lucky part in itself (that the film reached the audience and of course) I am grateful to. Was lucky to be a part of the film). So yes, it’s been 10 years since Wasseypur!”
When we asked how the actor prepared for Shahid Khan’s role in the film, he admitted that he didn’t have much understanding or understanding at that time. “I was in very safe hands of Anurag Kashyap. He knew exactly what he wanted from me. I didn’t think much about how I wanted to play this character. People often ask me how I understood the life of a coal mine worker. I lived in a village in my formative years, I have cultivated my farm for a long time with my own hands. So the hard work you do is the same – when the farmer does the farming and when the laborer works in the mine. So I took it to the field level, and the rest was wonderful writing, and Anurag Kashyap. These two made what Shahid Khan was,” quipped Jaideep.
Jaideep Ahlawat portrayed the character of Shahid Khan, the infamous dacoit and father of Sardar Khan, in the film. Her plot to go against Ramadhir Singh was uncovered, and she was killed by Singh. This started the chain of events that we see in Gangs of Wasseypur, which spans roughly two films.
