Italian Ennia Bastianini on Grassini Ducati on Friday broke the Bugatti circuit mark set by Frenchman Zarco in 2018 to set a new record.

Zarco clocked 1 minute 30.537, shaving more than 0.6 seconds off the day’s old record, as the top nine riders on Saturday bettered Bastianini’s Friday time.

Zarco was 0.031 faster than Francesco Bagnaya on the factory Ducati, with championship leader Fabio Quartaro behind Yamaha 0.145.

Zarco, who rides for Ducati Satellite Team Pramac, is looking for his first win at MotoGP level, with Quartaro chasing his first win at his home Grand Prix.

Spanish multiple world champion Marc Marquez was fourth on his Honda.

Last year’s Le Mans winner, Australian Jack Miller, was fifth at the Ducati factory.

Battling with mechanical problems, Bastianini had only the 16th fastest time in the third practice session.

Their Friday time was still good enough to be in the top 10 of the combined classification, good enough to advance straight into the second and final qualifying session in the afternoon.

Q2 begins at 1210 GMT with riders outside the top 10 for the two spots in Q1 who follow at once and decide the first four rows of the grid.
