Leg spinner Yasir Shah returns for Sri Lanka Test MPNRC

Lahore (92 News) – Leg-spinner Yasir Shah returned to the national men’s team as chief selector Muhammad Wasim today announced an 18-man squad for next month’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

Yasir was instrumental in Pakistan’s 2-1 win over Sri Lanka on their last tour of the island in 2015, taking 24 wickets at 19.33. He returns to the team after being fully fit. Yasir played his 46th and last Test so far against the West Indies in August 2021.

Salman Ali Agha, who has scored 4,224 runs and 88 first-class wickets, is another addition to the squad. Mohammad Nawaz is the third player to be recalled. He was named in the squad for the Australia Test but was withdrawn due to injury.

The squads named for the latest matches of the ICC World Test Championship include three openers, four middle-order batsmen, three all-rounders, two wicketkeepers, two spinners and four fast bowlers.

Pakistan squad for Sri Lanka Test: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain, wicket-keeper), Abdullah Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Salman Ali Agha , Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Afridi, Shan Masood and Yasir Shah

Chief selector Muhammad Wasim said, “We have selected this team keeping in mind the conditions in Sri Lanka and have equipped the team with the best resources.”

Babar Azam’s team will converge in Islamabad on June 25 and depart for Sri Lanka on July 6, with a seven-day camp running from June 26 to July 2 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, to finalize their preparations for the Test series.

Pakistan will play a three-day warm-up match from July 11-13. The first Test will be played in Galle from July 16, while the second Test will be played in Colombo from July 24.

In the upcoming 2022-23, Pakistan is set to host England and New Zealand in three and two Test matches in a bumper domestic international season.
