After 48 hours of effort, the forest department was successful in capturing the leopard from Silbarihat Ghatpar area of Alipurduar district, injuring about 10 people. In the Silbarihat Ghatpar area of Alipurduar district, a leopard entered the locality last Sunday and attacked the villagers. A total of ten people were injured in the leopard attack.
Despite hundreds of efforts by the port office, the leopard could not be made a cage. Cages and traps were laid by the Jaldapara Forest Department of the Forest Office in the Ghatpar area. However, this was not observed.
On Tuesday afternoon, villagers saw the leopard on a betel tree in Ghatpar area. After this, the forest department shot the sleeping leopard and took it into its custody.
ADFO Navjyoti Dey said, ‘It has become possible to catch the leopard with everyone’s cooperation. Villagers have been requested to inform the forest department before sighting the leopard. The police of Jaldapara Forest Department and Sonpur outpost have been patrolling the area since Sunday night after receiving the news of the leopard being in the area. The cage is placed inside the trap. Goats were also kept there. However, there was a problem in the process of catching the leopard, according to the forest department, due to crowding in the area during the day.
According to locals, the forest department’s special team was “not doing any work and wasting time”. Meanwhile, locals said that they were unable to sleep at night.
