Marathi actor Ketki Chitale gets bail on Facebook post against Sharad Pawar MPNRC

Mumbai: More than a month after he was arrested for sharing an objectionable post about NCP chief Sharad Pawar on social media, a court in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Wednesday granted bail to Marathi actor Ketki Chitale in connection with the case. . District Judge HM Patwardhan granted him bail on a surety of ₹20,000.

With this, Ketki Chitale will be able to get out of Thane Central Jail, where she is currently lodged, her lawyer said. On May 14, 2022, Thane police arrested Chitale for sharing a Marathi poem on Facebook that allegedly referred to NCP chief Sharad Pawar in a derogatory manner.

The police in Thane’s Kalwa had registered a case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for posting on Pawar.

His lawyer, advocate Yogesh Deshpande, appearing for Chitale, said that he will now be released from jail after getting bail from the court. The 29-year-old actor is currently facing over 20 FIRs in connection with the Facebook post.

Last week, a court here had granted bail to Chitale in another case registered against him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in neighboring Navi Mumbai in 2020.
