India created history by defeating Rasmus Gemke of Denmark in men’s singles by reaching the final of Thomas Cup along with Indian shuttler HS Prannoy. Taapsee Pannu’s boyfriend, Mathias Bo, who is Team India’s badminton coach, took to his social media to share the excitement of the team’s victory over his home country Denmark.

He wrote, “Playing a team event in an individual sport is always so special, that’s probably why it’s so much fun. Yesterday was a little special for me to play again with my former colleagues, friends, coaches and country.”

He further jokingly wrote in the caption how his former teammates and coach called him a traitor for being on India’s side, “He chanted Judas behind me (laughing emoji), I won the match and gave it back to him. I really hope people in (India) come back to their homes to understand what an achievement it is. (India vs Indonesia) Thomas Cup final tomorrow. Have another go (sic).

Prannoy defeated Gemke in three sets of 13-21, 21-9, 21-12 as it etched India’s name on the pages of history forever as the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup are tournaments that are unofficially held by any country. Certified as the gold-standard.

Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy in singles and, importantly, the country’s best doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, once again stood up for the count. All of them have been in the top 10 and have made it to the circuit finals.

The final match is to be played between India and Indonesia on 15 May at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
