Happy Birthday to MS Dhoni: From collecting tickets at the Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal to collecting trophies for the biggest cricket tournament, MS Dhoni’s journey has been legendary. Dhoni made his debut for India in December 2004 against Bangladesh. In less than three years, the brilliant wicketkeeper-batsman was leading India to the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. 148 vs Pakistan

The sudden rise to No. 3 in the match against Pakistan on April 5, 2005 paved the way for MS Dhoni’s first international century. Dhoni, along with Virender Sehwag and then Rahul Dravid, scored 148 off 123 balls. Destroying Pakistan’s bowling in Visakhapatnam, Dhoni hit 15 fours and four sixes.

183 not out against Sri Lanka

With 148 against Pakistan at Visakhapatnam, the young Dhoni showed his ability to change one-sided matches. And with an unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka in Jaipur, Dhoni announced that he is here to stay longer. In reply to Sri Lanka’s 298, Dhoni hit 15 fours and 10 sixes. None of the Indian batsmen got a chance to cross the 40-run mark as Dhoni overcame the Sri Lankan bowling to show a one-man show.

224 vs Australia, 2013

In reply to Australia’s 380 in the first Test, India got off to a sudden start in Chennai, losing both openers by just 12 runs. Before MS Dhoni’s arrival, the partnership between Chetesh War Pujara and Sachin Tendulkar gave stability to the innings. India took a good lead over the visitors. In partnership with Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, Dhoni led the Indian innings. The captain scored his first double century and completed 224 runs to take India to 572 runs.

113 * v. Pakistan, Chennai, 2012

India were back at 29/5 when Dhoni came down to bat against Pakistan’s fiery bowling attack. The hosts needed magic to avoid an offensive score. Dhoni performed magic in Chennai that day. With a flexible 113, Dhoni led India to 227 runs. Even if the innings is lost, it is definitely best to get out of Dhoni’s bat.

91 v Sri Lanka, 2011

Every Indian cricket fan remembers Dhoni winning the World Cup in 2011 with a six off his bat. Chasing Sri Lanka’s 274, India found themselves in trouble as they lost three wickets for 114 runs. However, due to the partnership between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, the match went in India’s favor. Gambhir was dismissed for 97, while Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91 off 79 balls.
