Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik meets Pope Francis at Vatican MPNRC

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met Pope Francis in Vatican City on Wednesday. Patnaik was accompanied by his personal secretary VK Pandian for the meeting on the third day of his trip to Italy.

On behalf of the people of Odisha, the Chief Minister presented a ‘Patachitra’ painting to the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, and sought his blessings, an official statement issued by his office in Bhubaneswar said. “It is a great pleasure to meet His Holiness Pope Francis (Pontifex) in Vatican City. Thank you for the warm audience and wish him good health and long life,” Patnaik tweeted after the meeting.

Many priests and sisters from India, who were in the Vatican, were delighted to see Patnaik. The statement said that he wished him well. Patnaik is in Italy at the invitation of the World Food Program (WFP) and will share Odisha’s transformational initiatives in the field of food security and disaster management.

This is Patnaik’s second foreign visit as the Chief Minister of Odisha in the last 22 years. He will also visit Dubai and meet investors during this 11-day visit. The BJP took a jibe at Patnaik for not meeting Shankaracharya of Govardhan Peeth Swami Nischalananda Saraswati even once during Patnaik’s 22-year rule.

BJP spokesperson Biranchi Tripathi said, “It would have been better if Patnaik had met Shankaracharya at least once as the head of the secular government.
