Ola Electric is receiving its response for the incident in which the scooter caught fire. Now, CEO and Founder Bhavish Agarwal has hit back at the critics who highlighted a recent incident involving the Tata Nexon EV. India’s best-selling electric vehicle Nexon EV caught fire in Mumbai’s suburb of Vasai.
The Ola founder also wrote that such incidents occur in all global products and fires are much less in EVs than in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles that run on fossil fuels. “The EV will catch fire. Happens in all global products as well. Fires in EVs are much less common than ICE fires,” he tweeted.

Aggarwal hit back at reports that put pressure on the company after Ola’s scooter caught fire. Agarwal noted in subsequent tweets that a growing sector like EVs requires “a lot of education”. “Let us collectively work towards creating awareness!” They said.

The incident involving the Tata Nexon EV was reported on June 22. Visuals of an EV wrapped in flames surfaced on social media. According to reports, the owner of the car was on his way home from office after charging his vehicle and after a few kilometers the EV started making noise and then burst into flames.
Taking note of this incident, Tata Motors issued a statement which said, “A detailed investigation is being conducted to ascertain the facts of the isolated thermal incident that has been doing the rounds on social media recently. We will share detailed feedback after our thorough investigation. We are committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users. Having covered more than 100 million kms across the country, more than 30,000 electric vehicles in almost 4 years This is the first incident.
