Ahmedabad: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday detained a Pakistani fisherman and seized five boats from the Harami Nala Bay area near the Indo-Pak border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, an official said. The incident took place a day after the BSF seized two fishing boats abandoned by Pakistani fishermen in the same area.
During their patrolling, the BSF personnel spotted the movement of some fishing boats near the international border early this morning. BSF personnel reached the spot despite rising water level due to high tide, BSF said in a press release.
While the other fishermen managed to escape to the Pakistani side, the BSF managed to nab a Pakistani national and seized five abandoned boats.
Except for some equipment and fishing nets, nothing suspicious was found in the seized boats, the release said. The BSF had arrested four Pakistani fishermen from the same area last month and seized 10 of their boats.
Security agencies intercept Pakistani fishermen and their boats from the Gulf area at regular intervals. While Indian fishermen are barred from entering the gulf for security reasons, Pakistani fishermen often venture into Indian waters in search of better catches.
