Leicester: Team India will take on Leicestershire in a four-day warm-up match starting on Thursday, ahead of the fifth scheduled Test against England on July 1.
The rescheduled match is a part of last year’s five-match Test series that had to be delayed after the fourth Test due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp.
The warm-up fixture will be an opportunity for the Men in Blue to reinvent themselves in the new position after a long run for the all-important fifth Test.
The series is in favor of the visitors, leading 2-1 after beating the hosts by 157 runs in the fourth Test at The Oval last year.
Meanwhile, India’s star players Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and the famous Krishna have been included in the rival Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) squad. They will play under county captain Sam Evans.
Captain Rohit Sharma will lead India for the rescheduled Test match along with England’s warm-up match against Leicestershire, starting at Edgbaston from July 1.
The LCCC, BCCI and ECB have allowed four players from the touring camp to be part of the Running Fox side, to allow all members of the traveling team to participate in fixtures (subject to fitness).
Matches will be played with 13 players per side to provide further variations and help manage the bowling workload.
India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, KS Bharat (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav.
Leicestershire CCC: Sam Evans (Captain), Rehan Ahmed, Sam Bates (Wk), Net Bowler, Will Davis, Joy Evison, Lewis Kimber, Abi Sakande, Roman Walker, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Praneek Krishna.
