North Korea slammed US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday for advocating sanctions against North Korea during her visit to South Korea this week.
Pelosi and her South Korean counterpart, National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo, pledged to achieve North Korea’s denuclearization during their stop in South Korea after visiting Taiwan on Thursday.
North Korean state media KCNA said Pelosi’s comments were part of a US plan to escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula. KCNA also said that Pelosi is trying to justify US hostility against North Korea and support US arms production.
“Pelosi, who is the worst destroyer of international peace and stability…has incurred the wrath of the Chinese people for her recent junket to Taiwan,” the KCNA statement quoted Jo Yong Sam, director general of the North’s press and information department, as saying. “America will pay a heavy price for all the problems she has caused wherever she has gone.”
North Korea prepared for a nuclear test in the first six months of this year, according to a transcript of a confidential United Nations report seen by Reuters on Thursday.
