Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will expand his cabinet on July 4 and five MLAs are likely to be included as ministers, party sources said on Sunday. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Punjab Raj Bhavan at 5 pm on Monday, an official said.
Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the appointees. This will be the first cabinet expansion of the Bhagwant Mann-led government in more than three months after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Punjab.
With the addition of five more ministers, the number of cabinets headed by Mann will increase to 15, including the chief minister.
Among the names in the running for the ministry post is Aman Arora, a two-time MLA from Sunam. Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, MLA of Amritsar South; Anmol Gagan Mann, MLA of Kharar; Fauja Singh, MLA of Guru Har Sahay; Saman constituency MLA Chetan Singh Jaurmajra; Sarvajit Kaur Manuke, a two-time MLA from Jagraon; Baljinder Kaur, a two-time MLA of Talwandi Sabo; And Budh Ram, a two-time MLA of Budhlada.
However, the AAP was silent on who would be included in the cabinet.
After the AAP formed the government with a landslide victory in the 2022 Assembly elections, 10 MLAs were included in the Mann-led cabinet as ministers. The cabinet has 18 berths including the CM.
The Mann-led cabinet currently has nine ministers. In May, Health Minister Vijay Singla was sacked from the state cabinet on corruption charges.
The Aam Aadmi Party had won 92 out of 117 seats in Punjab.
