New Delhi: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, along with others, were detained by the Delhi Police on Friday as they staged a march at the Rashtrapati Bhavan against inflation, inflation, GST and unemployment.

The old party has decided to hold an all-India protest on Friday and protest outside the residences of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu, however, the Delhi Police denied it.

Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 of CrPC in New Delhi district except Jantar Mantar after the Congress party decided to hold nationwide protests against inflation and unemployment. Congress leaders said they would go ahead with their proposed protest march even without permission from the Delhi Police.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was seen jumping a police barricade near the AICC office during the party’s protest against inflation and unemployment in Delhi. She was detained by the police during the Congress agitation.

Congress MPs including Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh and Ranjit Ranjan were also detained at Police Lines Kingsway Camp in Delhi. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was detained by the police while protesting against the central government over inflation and unemployment in Delhi.

“Our job is to raise people’s concerns…Some Congress MPs were detained, even beaten up by the police,” Congress MP Rahul Gandhi told reporters during a protest against inflation and unemployment at Vijay Chowk.

“All the Congress MPs were marching towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan to raise the issue of inflation and inflation but they are not letting us go from here. It is our job to raise people’s issues…Some MPs were detained, even beaten up,” he said before being detained.

The Congress is protesting on a large scale despite the Delhi Police denying permission. Paramilitary forces and Delhi Police have barricaded Vijay Chowk road and the road from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

“This protest is about inflation and Agneepath. Price hikes affect everyone. As a political party and elected representatives, we are bound to voice the grievances of the people. This is what we are doing,” Congress MP and senior leader P Chidambaram told reporters.

On the other side of the barricades, women paramilitary personnel are lined up to prevent Congress MPs from agitating. They have also planned to lay siege to the PM House. Speaking at a press conference, Rahul Gandhi said that there is no democracy in India anymore and our country is under the dictatorship of four people.

They control all the institutions of Germany… Give me the whole system and I will show you how elections are won.

Rahul Gandhi added, “We are witnessing the death of democracy. Brick by brick what India has built since almost a century ago is crumbling before your eyes. Anyone who stands against this idea of ​​a dictatorship is attacked, jailed, arrested and beaten.”

Immediately after Rahul Gandhi’s press conference, BJP’s Gaurav Bhatia said, “Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were granted bail in 2015 in the National Herald case. The case was filed a long time ago and even then they were not raising such issues (that ED is controlling). This is a ploy to distract from the fact that they were caught red-handed. Bhatia’s comments came after Rahul Gandhi alleged that the ED and other independent bodies were controlled by the BJP and the RSS and served to intimidate the opposition.

Congress today is protesting against rising prices, unemployment and GST rate hike. In Delhi, party leaders are marching from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan. State units of the party will hold similar protests across the country.

The Delhi Police has denied permission to the Congress to protest in the national capital, citing restrictions. Protesting opposition MPs chanted slogans against the government demanding rollback of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) hike on essential goods, with party chief Sonia Gandhi standing outside Gate No 1 carrying a banner with party women MPs. Parliament.

However, the protesters were stopped by the Delhi Police and were not allowed to enter the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Sonia Gandhi did not participate in this march. Other Congress MPs were detained by the police at Vijay Chowk.
