Sakshi Malik won gold in women’s wrestling freestyle 62Kg at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won the women’s freestyle 62Kg title at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games on Friday. She defeated Canada’s Ana Godinez Gonzalez in the final.

The 29-year-old defeated England’s Kelsey Barnes 10-0 by technical superiority in the quarter-finals, followed by a 10-0 technical victory over Cameroon’s Berthe Emilion Etta Ngole in the semi-finals.

Earlier on Friday, wrestling matches at the Victoria Park Arena in Coventry were halted due to security concerns. The Birmingham Commonwealth Games organizing committee has temporarily suspended the wrestling events to conduct some safety and security drills, an official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

The multi-time Asian Championship winner from Rohtak, Haryana added all her valuable experience to bag her third Commonwealth medal.
