The Senegal forward said on Wednesday that Sadio Mane’s impending move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich is the right decision at the right time as the German champions have the best plan for him.

Bayern, who won a 10th consecutive league title last season, have reportedly agreed a transfer of around €40m including add-ons for the 30-year-old, who had a year remaining on a Liverpool contract.

Mane arrived in Munich on Tuesday for a medical check-up and was seen wearing a Bayern shirt as he left the clinic. The club is expected to officially announce the deal later on Wednesday.

“My life has always been a challenge. When my mentor first told me of Bayern’s interest I was completely under fire and on fire,” he told Bild newspaper.

“I could see me there right away. For me it was the right club at the right time. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world that always fights for all the titles.

“The feeling was right for me when Bayern presented their plan. I saw myself more in Bayern’s plan than in anyone else.

Mane left Anfield after 269 appearances, scoring 120 goals in all competitions, a spectacular comeback that helped the club secure the 2018–19 Champions League title and the Premier League crown a season later.

The forward is set to become Bayern’s close third signing of the season, following the arrival of Ajax Amsterdam duo Ryan Gravenberch and Nausser Mazrouei.

Bayern are desperate to spark their versatile attack, with wingers Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane lacking consistency last season.

The Bavarians won the German league for the 10th time in a row but failed to get past the quarter-final stage in the Champions League.

Mane was among Liverpool’s stand-out performers last season, netting 23 times as Juergen Klopp’s side achieved a domestic cup double and missed out on the league title for Manchester City.
