ISLAMABAD (92 NEWS) – PPP President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that spreading propaganda is the biggest issue today.
He was addressing a meeting of the Group of Friends to Counter Disinformation on Thursday virtually for the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Bilawal Bhutto said that Pakistan along with friendly countries had formed the group to stop the propaganda. “There is a need to create awareness to stop the propaganda. We have to use modern technology for public awareness,” he said.
He urged the international community to enhance the capacity of governments and their respective institutions to analyze and uncover misinformation. “The United Nations and its agencies should help build the capacity of member states, especially developing countries. Financial and technical assistance should be provided to national and international researchers, and institutions that are involved in detecting misinformation. The UN Information Department can play an important role in this regard,” he demanded.
The foreign minister stressed that concerted international efforts can help expose and dismantle the propaganda network. They called for a concerted effort through cooperation to reduce the negative effects of propaganda on human rights and on the relationship between the community and the states.
He said the UN Secretary-General should create an inter-agency task force on propaganda and appoint a focal point for regular and ongoing dialogue with member states, private media and online companies, and other stakeholders.
He said that the rapid spread of propaganda especially through online platforms and social media has led to social discord; Promoted hate speech, racism, discrimination, xenophobia, Islamophobia.
