Ou Yang Li-hsing, deputy chief of research and development at Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense, sits in a hotel room in southern Taiwan.

According to the official Central News Agency, the deputy head of Taiwan’s defense ministry’s research and development unit was found dead in a hotel room on Saturday morning.

Ou Yang Li-hsing, deputy head of the military-owned National Chung-shan Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan on Saturday morning, CNA reported. He said authorities are investigating the cause of death.

Ou Yang was on a business trip to the southern county of Pingtung, the CNA said, where he assumed the post earlier this year to oversee various missile production plants.

The military-owned entity is working to double its annual missile production capacity to close to 500 this year, as the island ramps up its combat power in the face of a growing military threat from China.
