The decision was taken after several people were killed in elephant attacks in O’Valley in Gudalur between May and June.

The committee has already started talking to local people and tea planters to study human-animal conflict. The team is aware of local demand for physical barriers to prevent elephants from entering human settlements.

The committee has decided to survey the surrounding area and the problems that cause elephants to stray into residential areas before deciding on erecting barriers.
