On social media, the Red Devils shared photos of their players returning to training, including Rafael Varane, Alex Tales and Bruno Fernandes.

The official Europa League Twitter account has re-shared a photo of Fernandes with the headline “Now the pre-season is starting”.

The seemingly innocuous post in the Europa League, which features United’s midfield maestro, was perceived by many football fans as a troll. Fans doubted the league’s intentions and made some funny tweets.

A fan also slammed United’s tally Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to move away from Old Trafford to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League, six points behind Arsenal and have failed to qualify for the Champions League. Rivals Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham will represent the English side in the UCL.

United’s season in the Champions League was disappointing, losing to Atletico Madrid in the last 16. They will return to the Europa League after reaching the finals in the 2021 season.

Eric Ten Hague has been named the new head coach of Manchester United. He will be tasked with reforming the club and purchasing large silverware for the Red Devils.

United have already made their first transfer of the summer after signing Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malaysia for 14.7 million. Christian Eriksson has also been signed as a free agent and will strengthen United midfield.

With Ronaldo’s potential exit from the club, the Red Devils will be looking for new talismans to lead the lead.
