New Delhi: Jailed BSP MP Atul Rai acquitted in rape case by Varanasi MP/MP Court. Atul Rai, Lok Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghosi, is likely to be released from Naini jail soon. BSP MP’s lawyer Anuj Yadav and plaintiff’s lawyer ADGC Jyoti Shankar confirmed the news of his release.
Notably, in 2019, a resident of Ballia district and a former student of UP College in Varanasi filed a case against Rai at the Lanka police station. Alleging delay in justice, the victim and her witness set themselves on fire in front of the Supreme Court in August last year. Rai was booked by the Hazratganj police in Lucknow outside the Supreme Court in August last year for abetting the suicide of a girl and her witness.
Earlier this month, while rejecting BSP MP Atul Rai’s bail plea, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court asked Parliament and the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take steps to remove the culprits from politics and sever their ‘unholy nexus’. , politicians and bureaucrats.
“No one can argue that today’s politics is mired in webs of crime, identity, asylum, muscle and money. The nexus between crime and politics poses a serious threat to governance based on democratic values and the rule of law. Elections to Parliament and state assemblies and even elections to local bodies and panchayats are very costly affairs,” the bench said.
“There is an unholy alliance between organized crime, politicians and bureaucrats. The result is a lack of trust and confidence in the country’s administration and justice delivery system,” the bench added.
