West Bengal Police raid fake call center after US YouTuber exposed racket
The West Bengal Police recently closed a fake call center based on the lead provided by American YouTuber, Mark Rober. At least 15 “scammers” from New Town-based MET Technologies were duping people from the US, UK and Australia. The company has been operating since 2010 and has more than a thousand employees. It was featured in a video by YouTuber Mark Robert. He took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Here we go!! 1 of the call centers we showed (operated for a decade) has shut down. 15 senior officers arrested. This is just the first fight. Ours Have some encouraging discussions with Kolkata Police. Although this is their moment. The world is watching.”
here is my!! 1 of the call centers we have displayed (the one operating for DECADE) is closed. 15 senior officers arrested This is only the first fight. In a report in The Quint, the police said, “During the investigation process, their gadgets, bank passbooks and other documents (are) have been confiscated. Police called the operation an “international fake call center racket”. The police are now looking for the president.
In the video, YouTuber Rober teamed up with fellow YouTubers Jim Browning and Trilogy Media to set up stink bombs, glitter bombs, cockroaches, rats, and smoke bombs in the company’s office. He said that due to the action of his team many call centers in India got closed. He further claimed that he approached Kolkata Police but initially no action was taken. Robert now says he has had “some encouraging discussions with the Kolkata Police.” Have a look at the video:
Since its upload, the video has been viewed a total of 26,381,592 times. Many comments are also coming on the video. One YouTube user wrote, “The saddest thing about all these call centers is that they mainly employ young and ambitious people under the guise of “first real job” because of the terrible job market in India. It’s depressing to see someone laughing and laughing. Their day was as if it were a social setting, while someone is losing their life savings or is on the verge of death and can’t pay their medical bills.” Another person wrote, “I really appreciate that you guys took the time to emphasize that the rest of India is not like this and they hate scammers as much as we do. That was important! You all did an amazing job!”
