New Delhi: BJP Tripura chief, Rajya Sabha MP Manik Saha has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Tripura on Saturday. This has come to the fore after Biplab Kumar Deb resigned today. Saha is also the current Tripura BJP President. He will lead the BJP’s fight to retain the state in next year’s assembly elections.
Recently, Saha was elected to the Rajya Sabha, becoming the first BJP MP in the Upper House from the northeastern state. A dentist by profession, Saha had quit the Congress and joined the saffron party in 2016. He was made the state president of the party in 2020.
He is also the President of Tripura Cricket Association. Before joining mainstream politics, Saha taught at the Tripura Medical College in Hapania. He was credited for the party’s victory in all the thirteen municipal bodies in the elections held in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Biplab Kumar Deb is likely to take over as the president of the Tripura wing of the BJP.
Today at 8.30 am, Manik Saha shared pictures on his social media, in which he was caught welcoming Tawde and Sonkar at the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport. These images can now be seen as an indication of his appointment as the Chief Minister of Tripura.
Deb wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations and best wishes to @DrManikSaha2 ji on being elected as the leader of the legislature party. I am sure Tripura will prosper under the vision and leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji.”
