Amravati: The YSR Congress has announced its support to the candidature of Draupadi Murmu, the NDA candidate for the post of President of India, in the elections to be held on 18 July.
A release from the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday night lauded Murmu’s nomination for the top constitutional post.
“It is a good sign that a person from a tribal community, that too a woman, has been nominated for the post of President for the first time in the history of independent India. Therefore, the YSRC extends its support to him,” the CMO release said.
Though Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted to attend Murmu’s nomination filing program in New Delhi on Friday, he was skipping it due to a pre-scheduled meeting of the state cabinet.
The YSRC parliamentary party leader V Vijayasai Reddy and leader in the Lok Sabha P Midhun Reddy will represent the YSRC at the event, the release said.
The YSRC has nine members in the Rajya Sabha and 22 in the Lok Sabha, besides 151 in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
